I was so excited about the move that I forgot to consider my DSL connection. Moving not only meant moving furniture but also moving antennas and packing– again… darn, I am getting so good with packing and moving houses now. Moving also mean changing my mailing addresses and that mean changing billing addresses for my internet, landline as well as bank statements. Being a webworker, my life and work breathe along with the internet. Without internet connection, my job is non-existent, and my work was for a week on hold until I get my antenna up.

I went to Globe Innove office the very next day I moved and requested for relocation as well as reinstallation request. Much to my dismay, the CSR who attended to me at the office told me that I needed to make the request at another branch and asked why, she said this was because the form was unavailable in their branch. Trying my best not to explode, I asked her if the other branch can send the form via email or by fax to their branch so I can complete the form there so they can perform the process. She looked at me like I came from outer space and when I started to look for another personnel to speak with. I asked her, “can you just check if my request is possible?” She reluctantly went to her colleague on the other table and the other girl said yes it is possible. I smiled back upon hearing this and then the girl who was attending to me hurled another stupid utterance: “Ah, Ma’am can you please come back later kay mag lunch pa ko…”

OMG

…Aaahhhhh…

Customer service truly suck here in the country! Hearing this reminded me of my experience with Banco de Oro and I had to strain myself from bursting.

Then my son started saying, “Mom are we eating at Pizza Hut?” Save by the bell… Instead of reasoning out with her, I instead I said, “ok, can you please make sure the form is here after 45 minutes? My kids and I will have lunch as well.”

After our lunch the forms were ready and I signed the request.

Now waiting for the serviceman to come around my address was another thing…

Earlier today my daughter suddenly screamed that the internet was no longer working. I asked her to make sure that the Airport Switch in the Macbook is “ON.” She said the “rainbow” was missing. After her loud scream, Freida who was using the other PC in the other room screamed and she said there was something wrong with her PC too. I looked at the PC and saw that there indeed was no connection. I reseted the modem and unplugged the cable from the wireless router and directed the cable into the main router and reloaded the browser. Nothing.

Good thing I still have the Bayantel Wireless Dial-up and I connected to Globelines stylish and rad website and downloaded Click Fix. Click Fix is an easy to use tool that subscribers can use to troubleshoot their connections without having to call for assistance. Using my Bayantel connection, I downloaded and run the program and in minutes I was asked to unplug and replug the cables, turned off the Windows firewall, etc. A small pop-up window conveniently instructs me what to do. I followed the instructions explicitly and after 5 or so minutes we were all back online!

Thanks to the convenient program from Globelines. If you are a Globe Broadband subscribers, I strongly suggest you use the program while your connection is STILL working. In case you lose your connection, there is a more economical and convenient alternative other than calling technical support… who liked being put on hold, anyway?

After Smart has turned down my location TWICE, I actually thought I am stuck in dial-up world or I should start considering moving out of my area and move somewhere where hardwire DSL is available. Being a freelance writer and VA, my job depended on reliable internet connection. Not only that, while working, another program monitoring my progress has to run simultaneously in order for my buyer to see my progress. Screen snapshots as well as keyboard strokes are recorded as well. This program is also used for billing purposes.

Being online constantly not only makes my work easier– it also makes me reachable thru various IMs and Skype. It also affords me to be on top of the news as it were so I can blog about it! Neat!

It rained the entire weekend. The torrential rains made my internet connection impossibly slower than ever. Not only that, I missed an interview for freelance work because of the unavailable connection. Darn. Lost opportunity, that’s what it is.

I am still planning my antenna that hopefully would be long enough to get that elusive Smart Bro-ken juice. I have checked our local telecommunication company here in the boondocks and they said they did not have the infrastructure for DSL. There goes my plan for a Bayantel DSL.

Strangely, the town close to my small barangay is offering Globe Broadband. But all the bad Globe reviews is scaring the shit out of me. I seem to have very limited choice. The only available connection here is Smart and Smart has already turned down my place because they claim they cannot get enough signal… I really hated to hear and accept that because a few feet from my house is another Smart Bro subscriber. The only difference is that their house has a second storey and their tower is so high. They actually offer internet use in their place for 15/hour and I was so darn envious of the speed. It was fast. I have a cousin whose house is 10 minutes away from my house and they said that there simply is no connection every Sunday somehow. Ano yon? Scheduled ang downtime?

Anyway, I am currently planning on building my own tower. I am consulting Smart with this para sigurado. I am also seeking the help of my aunt who has the people who can help me make this tower a reality. I have waited for 6 months for another broadband deal to come in the boondocks. Nada. After 6 long months, I am still on dial up…

I have just downloaded the much awaited Firefox 3. I was tempted to check it out during their much read Download Day, but I hesitated because I wanted to wait for the feedbacks and after reading it from Blogher, I checked again and downloaded it TWICE. Twice?

After downloding the .exe file, and I was ready to install, I got the message “file corrupt” and I could not install. I downloaded again and got the same message. After two futile attempts, I googled “firefox 3 file corrupt” and got alot of links. Made me feel I was not alone, so I started reading the links and got nowhere. I checked the release notes of Firefox and got this:

You can talk to other users in real time by joining the #mozillazine channel on mozilla.org’s IRC server (
irc.mozilla.org
) with an IRC client, such as Chatzilla. (Chatzilla comes installed in Mozilla by default, and can be added to Firefox as an extension.) In addition to #mozillazine, there are channels for support and discussion of specific Mozilla products including #firefox for the Mozilla Firefox web browser and #thunderbird for the Mozilla Thunderbird e-mail client.

I installed Chatzilla and got into a world I have never known until now. So many techies just talking about Firefox, how to customize and tweak the CSS of Firefox… So I threw in my question and Nathan responded and asked what the file size was. Perhaps trying to determine if I downloaded the right program. He then asked me what my virus scan program is and he advised me to turn it off before downloading the Firefox and reinstall. True to his word the Windows XP started to extract the files and Firefox was installed. Viola! Now its time to find out what the buzz is about…

To download Firefox 3, click here or click the button below.
