Simple Pleasures- A Day at the Beach
Posted by Alma on Dec 20, 2008 in Children, Family, Life Speak | 2 commentsI took the children to the beach last Saturday. The day was special because it was a surprise… I cooked it up the other day after the local electric company announced that there will be a 4 hour brownout on Saturday. So rather than kill myself in a house devoid of the fan and other entertainment, I planned to take the kids out to the local beach.

Nothing fancy really… just plain, gray, sandy beach.

The day absolutely went great. Having not told the children about it was half the fun. As soon as the electricity went off, I was already finishing up the spaghetti and busy packing our plastic spoons and forks, plastic glasses and bowls. I also called for the local transportation to take us to the beach. The kids squealed after the announcement. They jumped into their suits and the manong came and off we went.
The day was perfect! It was sunny, but not too scorching hot. Baby Ia walked around our tiny nipa made hut. We walked towards the nearest sari-sari store and bought our ice cold drink and we were ready to have our lunch of spaghetti and bread.
The kids waded and ran around the beach and played on the sand. Having been born in the city made them uncontrollable. Talk about simple fun and pleasure.
